Phenelle Segal of ICCS Discusses Mold Growth in Sterilization Sink at CA Hospital

Infection Control Consulting Services (ICCS) Founder and President Phenelle Segal, RN, CIC, FAPIC, discussed a recent outbreak of mold at a California hospital with Outpatient Surgery Magazine.

The mold was found growing in a sterilization sink.

In the column, Ms. Segal explains some possible origins of the mold and emphasizes the need for organizations to perform proper cleaning in the decontamination room.

Phenelle Segal of Infection Control Consulting Services Named APIC Fellow

Infection Control Consulting Services (ICCS) is proud to announce that its founder and president, Phenelle Segal, RN, CIC, FAPIC, has been accepted as a member of the 2017 group of Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) fellows.

According to APIC, its fellows program "recognizes exemplary APIC members with status as a Fellow of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (FAPIC). Fellow of APIC status is a distinction of honor for infection preventionists who are not only advanced practitioners of infection prevention practice, but also leaders within the field." 

To be considered for APIC fellow status, applicants must:

  • be an APIC member in good standing for the last five consecutive years prior to applying;
  • hold the CIC (certification in infection prevention and control) certification;
  • have a bachelor's degree or higher; and
  • have at least seven years of infection prevention work experience.

Applicants must also have been an author in a scientific peer-reviewed publication and demonstrate achievement in three of the four future-oriented domains of the APIC competency model.

Phenelle has more than 30 years of experience in infection prevention and control. She oversees the ICCS consulting team, which assists healthcare organizations, associations and other entities with developing, implementing and maintaining evidence-based infection prevention and control programs as well as providing on-site and virtual education and training.

Phenelle Segal to Present on CMS Requirements at Gulf States ASC Conference

Phenelle Segal, RN, CIC, founder of Infection Control Consulting Services (ICCS), will be presenting at the 2017 Gulf States ASC Conference.

The meeting takes place June 21-23 at The Ritz-Carlton in New Orleans. It is sponsored by the ambulatory surgery center (ASC) associations from Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi.

Phenelle will be presenting on "CMS Requirements for ASCs – Updated Surveyor's Worksheet" on June 22 at 10:45 a.m.

According to the conference brochure, her presentation description is as follows: "Infection prevention in the ASC setting continues to be a large area of focus for CMS and this session will discuss the changes made to the surveyor's worksheet in 2015. Each item listed on the worksheet will be addressed in detail and will include ongoing deficiencies noted during onsite visits."
